Designed by God

Take time to look up the Bible verses if you want to really benefit from this study

The design and complexity of the human body is a testimony to the Almighty, All-wise Creator.

Job 10v8, 9, +11; Psalm 139v13-16

The beginning of a child is truly amazing. The design and complexity of the human body is a testimony to the Almighty, All-wise Creator.

Psalm 139 describes God’s plan for the development of each individual. God thought of you before you were born or even thought of by your parents (Psalm 139v15+16; cp. Jeremiah 1v5). God knew all the parts of the unformed body and He skilfully put them together (Psalm 139v13-16; cp. Job 10v8+11). He made you.

The blueprint found in the child’s DNA is more complicated than the most sophisticated computer programme but all the information it needs to develop into a fully-grown individual is there. From the moment of conception the child is truly human – and nothing else. The baby will never develop into a monkey, and monkey cells will never develop into human ones.

A human embryo is always human from the moment of conception. It does not become human sometime after 8 weeks. The Bible teaches that the unborn baby is a tiny human child, so abortion takes an innocent human life (cp. Genesis 25v21+22; Exodus21v22+23; Psalm 139v13-16; Jeremiah 1v5

The human body is so perfectly designed and incredibly complex that there is just no way it could have evolved. The immense complexity of the human brain, its creativity and power of reasoning, with capacities vastly beyond that required for sheer survival, is perhaps the most ‘obvious’ evidence for intelligent creation. Man is still discovering God’s creation and how it works. Consider also the eye, the body’s defence mechanisms, DNA, etc. Even one cell is highly complex. It does not matter how many billions of years are included in the evolutionary time span, it is impossible for such vast amounts of complex information to evolve. We must conclude that we are “fearfully and wonderfully made.”

God your Creator loves you. He knows you were ‘born in sin’ as a result of our first parents’ sin (Psalm 51v5; Romans 5v12). He wants to save you from your sins and make you a new creature in Christ Jesus (Matthew 1v21; 2 Corinthians 5v17). Our Creator wants to be our Saviour.

What About Us?

  1. We are Fearfully and Wonderfully Made. For this we ought to praise God. Psalm 139v13-16.
  2. We are sinful creatures of the dust, our bodies will return to the earth, and therefore we have nothing to be proud of, in and of ourselves. Genesis 3v19; Psalm 146v4; 1 Corinthians 1v31; 4v7.
  3. God gave us life; our life and breath is in God’s hand. Job 12v9+10; 33v4.
  4. We are created for God’s glory. We ought to worship and bow down before our Maker. Psalm 95v6; Isaiah 43v7.
  5. God made us, so He owns us, and therefore has the right to tell us what to do. We are to love God with all our being. Psalm 100v3+4; Mark 12v30+31.
  6. We each have a soul that is worth more than all the wealth, honour, and pleasures of this world. It will live forever in either heaven or hell depending on what we have done with our Creator. Mark 8v36+37; John 3v14-18.

Conclusion

The Bible says, “Remember now thy Creator….”

Ecclesiastes 12v1 KJV

It is humbling to recognise that in God’s vast and varied Creation He has made man in His own image. With the Psalmist we can ask, “What is man that Thou art mindful of him? And the son of man, that Thou visitest him?” (Psalm 8v4) Let us worship God for His amazing creative power and for His giving us the capacity to know and worship Him. The image of God in man means he is distinct from animals; it makes him responsible to his Maker, and is thus foundational to the gospel of Christ.

“Woe unto him that striveth with his Maker!”

Isaiah 45v9 KJV

Modern man tends to forget his Creator – some will openly defy Him and others will idolise the superstars instead. Many choose evolutionary notions above the true record of history found in God’s Word. May it never be said of us that we “changed the truth of God into a lie, and worshipped and served the creature more than the Creator, Who is blessed for ever” (Romans 1v25). Our Creator wants first place in our lives (Exodus 20v3).  Is He Lord of your life?

In the beginning everybody was a creationist!
