What is Sin?

Take time to look up the Bible references and think about how terrible sin is!

Sin is against God. Psalm 5v4; 51v4; Genesis 39v9(b).

Sin is disobeying God's commands. 1 John 3v4; James 2v10; 4v17; Exodus 20v3-17; "all unrighteousness is sin"1 John 5v17

Sin is falling short of God's standard of absolute perfection. Romans 3v23.

Sin is universal - we all have sinned. Isaiah 53v6; Romans 3v10+23; 5v12; "for there is no man that sinneth not" 1 Kings 8v46.

Sin separates us from God. Isaiah 59v1+2.

Sin is punished by death. Romans 6v23; "the soul that sinneth it shall die" Ezekiel 18v4; (cp. eternal death Revelation 20v14+15; 21v8).

We are sinners by nature and by practice. Jeremiah 17v9; Matthew 5v19; John 3v19(b); Ephesians 2v3. We sin because we are sinners.

"And be sure your sin will find you out" (Numbers 32v23).
"the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin." 1 John 1v7(b)
